RCMP are investigating an incident after a Revelstoke man was rushed to hospital following an altercation near Queen Elizabeth Park on Friday morning.

In a news release, the RCMP said the situation near Queen Elizabeth Park on Apr. 25 at around 11:15 a.m.

"Police were made aware of an incident which occurred in the school zone on Ninth (Street) where two males, ages 56 and 33, interacted on the roadway," wrote Staff-Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky.

The 56-year-old was taken to Queen Victoria Hospital and later airlifted to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, RCMP said.

According to unconfirmed reports, he received a serious head injury.

"The exact circumstances as to how the injuries to the male occurred is the subject of the police investigation," Grabinksy said in the news release.

He also told the Times Review the RCMP's Serious Crime Unit was called in from Kelowna to investigate the incident.

The Times Review has heard similar second-hand accounts of the incident from two people, but we have been unable to confirm exactly what happened.

RCMP are not releasing any names at this time.

Police are looking for witnesses to the incident.
