Golden RCMP say one person was airlifted to hospital by BC Air Ambulance and nine others were treated and transported to hospital by ground ambulance after a serious MVI at Rogers Pass on Friday afternoon.

Golden RCMP spokesperson Cst. Amber Brunner said Golden RCMP responded to the incident at 2:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time at a location 45 kilometres west of Golden.

Police provided little more information on the details of the collision, other to say it was a head-on crash.

Cst. Brunner said that speed relative to conditions and inadequate tires "appear to be factors in the collision." The investigation is ongoing.

"Police would like to remind motorists to slow down and drive to the conditions of the road," said Cst. Brunner in a statement.

Revelstoke first responders could be seen leaving town with sirens on at about 3 p.m. on Friday. (Update: Revelstoke Fire Chief Rob Girard said Revelstoke Fire Rescue were not called to the multi-vehicle MVI because it was out of the Revelstoke service area.)

The incident closed the Trans-Canada between Revelstoke and Golden for about three hours, RCMP said.

It wasn't the only incident to close that stretch of highway on Friday. Sometime before 9:50 p.m., another vehicle incident caused a closure of the section for over an hour.

Unconfirmed reports say a transport truck hauling explosive or flammable chemicals caught fire.

The Times Review is following up on both of these stories.

Original story posted on Dec. 13 at 4 p.m.

The Trans-Canada Highway is closed between Revelstoke and Golden as of 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13 due to an MVI.

Drive BC estimates the highway will re-open to single-lane alternating traffice at 5:30 p.m.

Although it's unclear where the incident occurred, at around 2 p.m., first responders could be heard discussing an MVI east of Revelstoke that involved an entrapment of at least one person.

The Times Review will not be providing further updates on this collision. For the latest road information, check the Drive BC website.
