One person is dead following crash in Trans-Canada snowshed near Revelstoke
One person is dead after a truck crashed head-on with a tractor-trailer in a snow shed on the Trans-Canada Highway near Albert Canyon Tuesday afternoon.
The collision took place at around 3 p.m. in the Lanark Tunnel, which is the middle of three tunnels between Albert Canyon and Glacier National Park, said Sgt. Kim Hall of the Revelstoke RCMP.
The crash closed the Trans-Canada Highway between Revelstoke and Golden until just after midnight, leaving many commuters stranded along the route.
The 40-year-old male driver suffered serious injuries and died at the scene. An air ambulance was called in but later cancelled once the severity of the man's wounds were determined.
No one else was injured in the crash.
Hall said the eastbound truck crossed the centre line into the oncoming westbound tractor-trailer. "Winter conditions are definitely a factor," she said.
