Parks puts Klotz Mountain caribou closure into effect
The Klotz Mountain caribou closure in Mount Revelstoke National Park is in effect as of Thursday, Dec. 15.
The closure is in place to ensure the protection of mountain caribou during the winter months.
The closed area is along the eastern boundary of the park. Parks Canada expanded the closure by 13 per cent at the north-east boundary for the 2011-12 winter.
See the map on page 8 to view the boundaries.
The closure is in effect until April 15, 2012. Violation of the closure can result in a fine of up to $200,000.
Expanded snowmobiling closures in Keystone/Standard Basin and Caribou Basin, both located north of Revelstoke, will be in effect from Jan. 1 to Apr. 15, 2012.
Existing closures on Frisby Ridge and Sale Mountain will also be in effect during that time.
The Revelstoke Snowmobile Club has information about the closures, including maps, on its website at www.revelstokesnowmobileclub.com/caribou.php.
