Missing Aussie skier rescued
An Australian skier has been rescued after spending a night in the bush after she ventured out-of-bounds at Revelstoke Mountain Resort.
RCMP Staff-Sgt. Jacquie Olsen confirmed that Revelstoke Search and Rescue located missing skier Joasia Robinson first thing Tuesday morning.
She had been reported missing Monday afternoon.
Robinson was located in the Montana Drainage area. The river drainage lays below the southern portion of the ski resort. Skiers venture into the out-of-bounds area and become trapped. Each season, many skiers and boarders are either rescued or provided assistance to self-rescue – usually by hiking for hours through deep snow before they eventually emerge onto Airport Way.
Olsen said that Robinson was not carrying a cell phone, making rescue more problematic.
Olsen believed Robinson was rescued using a helicopter and long line, but couldn't confirm this detail. She said the visitor to Revelstoke was taken to hospital for a check, but she didn't believe she had any serious injuries.
