Man taken to hospital after crashing into semi on Trans-Canada Highway
An Alberta man was rushed to hospital after colliding with a tractor-trailer on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Revelstoke late Tuesday night.
The victim, a 68-year-old from Lethbridge, Alta., was heading eastbound in a 2011 Hyundai Coupe, when he sideswipe the rear wheels of a westbound tractor-trailer unit at around 11 p.m. on Sept. 20, said Staff Sgt. Jacquie Olsen of the Revelstoke RCMP.
"The Hyundai suffered extensive damage, which required the drive to be extricated from it," she said. "No obvious injuries were noted however he did have a lower level of consciousness."
The victim was removed from the vehicle by Revelstoke Highway Rescue and taken to Queen Victoria Hospital.
Olsen said the cause of the crash is undetermined at this point.
"It's unsure at this point whether or not the subject may have had a medical issue or may have fallen asleep," she said.
