Revelstoke Environment Coordinator contract renewed
Revelstoke city council has renewed the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator position for 2011-12.
Penny Page-Brittin is the current coordinator. Her contract expired on June 15, 2011.
A staff report presented at the June 28 city council meeting praised her work, citing the completion of the Corporate Energy and Emissions Reduction Strategy and the Cosmetic Pesticide Bylaw as two examples.
The staff report also notes there is much to be done to ensure Revelstoke meets its obligations under the Climate Action Charter and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Partners for Climate Protection program, and other greenhouse gas commitments.
Page-Brittin was hired in June of 2010. Although the renewal of the contract position is not unexpected, it is one to watch in the future as council has not yet decided the long-term status of the contract position.
The city had previously budgeted $60,000 for the coordinator, including costs, for the calendar year of 2011. The decision means another $30,000 will be allocated for the remaining portion of the 2012 fiscal year.
