Cadets from Revelstoke, Salmon Arm, Sicamous and Enderby take part in winter exercises at the old Big Eddy Elementary school last Saturday, Feb. 18. The cadets did activities such as snowshoeing (above), beacon searches, winter camping set up and sled hauling. They also spent the weekend camping outdoors in the field outside the school.

This Sunday, Feb. 26, the Revelstoke cadets are holding their winter biathlon. The biathlon will consist of snowshoeing and shooting targets in the gym.  10 cadets and several adults will take part in the event, which the corps hopes will become an annual affair. “We’re trying really hard to include parents in some activities,” said organizer Susanne Tippe.

The biathlon is a follow-up on the cadets triathlon that was held last fall. These events are being put on to help with one of the cadets core mandates, which is to promote physical fitness, said Tippe. The cadets are also hoping to attract more kids into the program.
